Tritiyo Onko, Otoeb (Cast: Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Dwijen Banerjee and Poulami Bose)
Last Saturday (21st April, 2013), I had the pleasure of watching a play by the great Soumitra Chattopadhyay at Girish Mancha. The play was titled Tritiyo Onko, Otoeb (The Third Act, Hence) and starred Soumitra himself along with Dwijen Banerjee and Poulami Bose.
The play is autobiographical in nature, with the three actors playing the great thespian Soumitra. The play refers to lesser-known facets and anecdotes from Soumitra’s life, who is better known as a brilliant actor of the big screen and a particular favourite of the legendary Satyajit Ray.
Watching Soumitra in action was a real treat, and to hear the man enact the story of his own life only made the experience doubly enthralling

Watching Soumitra in action was a real treat, and to hear the man enact the story of his own life only made the experience doubly enthralling. Soumitra outshone his co-actors, playing himself as well as other characters from his life and left one greedily wishing why he wasn’t active for a greater part of the play, despite knowing fully well what would have been the physical demands of the same on a man in the third act of his life .
Still, it was a wonderful experience and a truly memorable evening for an admirer!
