The Wait (poem)

Don’t take the pain away, I pray

Lest I forget how bad it had hurt,

Just give me a song if you can

So it doesn’t sting so hard.

 

Don’t take those memories away

Lest I forget to mind the gap,

Just give me a fairytale where the hero

Can leap coolly across the trap.

 

Don’t need to shine your torch down

Let the night howl and bark,

Else I fear I may never learn

The art of walking in the dark.

 

Don’t have to douse the fire for me

Lest I forget how it felt to burn,

Just hum me a lullaby while you’re here

I am happy to wait for my turn.

 

I love my rose the way it is,

Please don’t pluck away the thorn.

Don’t have to hurry the stars for me

I know they take a while to be born.

 

I don’t mind biding my time at all,

I can wait all night for my morn.
