Turning corners
—-?—————
I haven’t always looked before I leapt,
Made promises that were not kept.
Times I priced my trust too low,
Times I learnt my lessons slow.
Times I turned blind corners too fast,
And ended up stubbing my toe.
But I’ve tried through it all
To not get hurt till before the fall,
Not let the doubts of clouds past
On this bright day their shadows cast.
There are gardens where I’m yet to be
So much moonlight I’m yet to see,
But there’s been a lot to smile about –
Your silken beauty all round me!
Going to bed on a rainy night
The monsoon notes pattering away,
Waking up on a winter morning
To the aroma of vanilla and holiday.
Looking into a deer’s eyes in the woods
Watching the sky take on that hue of blue,
When it just doesn’t have a clue –
Whether to rain or shine today.
Silently watched the eve draw her drapes
Waited to see the light dance and play,
One last time over the rocks and hills
Where a kingdom of yesteryears lay.
Oh, please don’t let the alarm pins
Pierce the melody of my dream!
Let your joys wash me fresh, O life,
But in a gentle stream..
Else, the skeptic in me might mistake
Your diamonds for trinkets fake.
May I not get lost in whistles and bells
Aphorisms, anecdotes and parables.
But find my truest peace
Not in gifts new but albums old.
Give me a box to stow away my woes
Before I am off to sleep,
And in the morn may they be reborn
As your sweet fragrance.
I’m a lonely leaf in autumn
Riding the wind across an empty road.
I’m but a twinkling star in your sky
Always burning, yet never dry.
True, I haven’t always looked before I leapt
Begun dreaming at times before I slept,
But there’s also been times alright
When turning a blind corner on a dark night
I’ve bumped right into bliss!
