On the road less travelled

On the road less travelled
?——————————-
Yes, I took the road less travelled
And it’s been a while I have tread.
Perhaps now’s a time as good as any,
To take stock of all the difference it made.

I stand here today, as I had stood that day
Facing the darkness, or ought I say –
‘Tis the darkness that faces me,
Shivering and shaking in the knee,
Because it knows, keep walking I will
Tearing thru’ its heart, come fire or chill.

My sole’s are worn, my hat’s threadbare.
My feet are bloody, there’s rain in my hair.
The bats are out hunting, their shadows spell scare,
The wind howls mad, yet onward I dare.

Because it’s shining on, that orange light –
Oh, I’ve seen it often, from day one alright!
‘Twas my heart that lit the way
Through the dark day,
Through the long night.
When my lamp blew out, my flame grew bright.

I know not what, awaits me at the end
I can’t see much far past that bend.
But this is the road I have chosen to face,
Or did the road choose me, in its loneliness?

Either way, we’ve just each other now.
And I’ve that distant light, urging me on.
I’ll tell you how it went at the end of my run,
I must get on now, I’m not yet done.

  • The Wait (poem)
Don’t take the pain away, I pray Lest I forget how bad it had hurt, Just give me a song if you can So it doesn’t sting so hard.   Don’t take those memories away Lest I forget to mind the gap, Just give me a fairytale where the hero Can leap coolly across the... […]
