The trade I made

The trade I made
———————-
Time I took stock of the past few days
The things I bought, the trades I had
Some of them iffy, some not so bad!
Sweet anticipations for sweeter memories
Some ugly pains for beautiful stories.

A lotta smiles I got, for a few laughs.. tops
And a softer pillow that cost some teardrops.
Exchanged the romantic defeats,
For a few clinical heroic feats.

It was a good deal I got when I sold off
My old curtain for a bit of new light
And just a bite of my forbearance
For a healthy chunk of the good ol’ fight!

Though I’ve a feeling I got duped off when –
With too much innocence I paid
For the very little wisdom I gained.

Time too might have taken me for a ride
For the longer fuse she said I needn’t pay,
But her offer had a rider I didn’t heed –
A few crow’s feet and a few more grey!

But maybe it hasn’t been all a loss
It seems I have made a slim profit for me.
‘Cause having paid with eighteen,
I’ve come away with a nineteen, you see!

  • The Wait (poem)
Don’t take the pain away, I pray Lest I forget how bad it had hurt, Just give me a song if you can So it doesn’t sting so hard.   Don’t take those memories away Lest I forget to mind the gap, Just give me a fairytale where the hero Can leap coolly across the... […]
